Mama’s Gun to release Wishing on Feb 28th

25 January 2010 No Comment

Mamas Gun, the funked-up five-piece fronted by singer/composer/producer/designer Andy Platts, release their new single Wishing on February 28th. This stunning Hall and Oates-tinged masterstroke (incidentally, in recent years, Platt has worked with the latter) features on the ‘deluxe’ version of the band’s debut album ‘Routes To Riches’ which was co-produced by Julian Simmons (Guillemots), mixed by Grammy Award-winning producer/engineer Jack Joseph Puig (Black Eyed Peas, U2, the Rolling Stones) and mastered by the equally notable Bob Ludwig. It will be released as a double A-side along with another track lifted from the album, the delightfully dirty, ‘Grove is in the heart’ vibe ‘Finger On It’.

Mamas Gun have already achieved play-list status for their first two singles on the BBC Radio 2 play-list & enjoyed the Album Of The Week feature on the Smooth radio network. They are also currently having a huge impact in Japan where 2009 saw them heralded as the most played international act in the country. The band also managed to achieve the No.3 sales slot on the Japanese Billboard charts, beating Madonna to No. 1 in the airplay charts in the process. The band’s sense of musical adventure, reinforced by the spirit of Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and the Average White Band at their blue-eyed-soul best, seems to have hit a nerve and there’s every reason to think that the band’s success in Japan is about to be replicated in the UK.

Mama’s Gun headline The Jazz Café in London on February 24th then tour their album headlining the following dates in March:

23rd March Birmingham Academy 3
25th March Southend Chinnerys
26th Brighton Latest Bar
28th March Manchester Dry Bar
29th March Newcastle Academy 2
31st Bristol Thekla.

After this the band continue their successful support tour with Beverley Knight on the following dates in April:

2nd April Rhyl Pavilion/4th April York Opera House/5th April Salford Lowry/7th April London Royal Albert Hall/8th April Leamington Spa Assembly.
