There’s a great deal to love about Future Selves, the epic debut album from San Diego’s Transfer. Bound with anthemic choruses, psychedelic guitars and skewed pop hooks, theirs is a sound that clips stadium-sized riffs to anthemic lyricism. It’s little wonder Q recently tipped them as the band most likely to emerge from America’s indie hinterlands in 2011.

High praise is something Transfer have gathered in bucket loads, however. Since first recording and self-releasing Future Selves in 2009, the four piece – Jason Cardenas (guitar, vocals) and Matthew Molarius (vocals, guitar), Shaun Cornell (bass) and Andy Ridley (drums) – soon picked up high profile support slots with White Lies, The Bravery and Killers front man, Brandon Flowers.

Along the way they amassed a growing, but near hysterical fanbase in Europe, where early arrivals for Flowers’ shows quickly tuned into Transfer’s sound. Facebook and Twitter later buzzed with good vibes; the band’s reputation went beyond the moshpit: in 2010, Cool Green Recordings signed them to their label and made plans to reissue Future Selves to a new audience in 2011.

12 years in the making, recently picked up by HBO to adapt into their next hit show, Knuckle tells the tale of 3 warring Irish Gypsy Clans and the lengths they will go to protect the honour of their family name. Not to be missed!

Debut single ‘You and Me’ is a shot to the heart. An infectious hybrid of indie-punk and surf-rock and utterly classic. Alongside Gaz and Jordan’s forlorn, lilting lyrics and their trademark hackle-raising harmonies, Russell’s driving guitar leaps across the dynamic range before a final crescendo into full-spectrum noise. Add to the mix some persistent, cascading drums, a waspy, insistent bass-line and an absolutely viral melody and its clear The Dead Fronts are the real deal – a gang of lads who understand the precocity of modern life and have set it to song. And a startling song it is too.

The stars have aligned or something magical like that as Onyx who never seem to play UK will be in London on August 4th to play at Fabric. Support on the night comes from the UK’s finest up n comer Iron Braydz as well as more UK talent + DJ 279 and other guests. This could well be a very historic occasion in the history of hip hop.
